Dentures are an effective treatment for restoring missing teeth but they are not the only option. At Staten Island Aesthetic & Implant Dentist, we offer several denture alternatives to patients in and around Staten Island, NY. To find out which treatment is right for you, we welcome you to schedule a consultation.
What Alternative Denture Options Are Available?
Although traditional removable dentures are a widely used option to treat tooth loss, denture wearers sometimes find that their dentures feel uncomfortable and unnatural and in many cases they have to make compromises when it comes to the foods they eat.
Fortunately, our Staten Island dentists offer several denture alternatives to provide patients living with tooth loss restored dental function and improved comfort. The following are a few options enjoyed by our patients.
Implant-supported dentures offer superior stability over traditional removable dentures. This is because implant-supported dentures are secured within the mouth by attaching to several strategically placed dental implants.
All-on-4 dental implants are a popular option in implant-supported denture treatment. With All-on-4, four dental implants are placed at an angle in the jaw. This allows the dentures to be attached immediately rather than waiting months for the bone to fuse to the implants as required with traditional dental implants.
Dental bridges are another option that can work in place of dentures. Dental bridges consist of two dental crowns joined by one or more artificial teeth. The crowns are attached to the remaining natural teeth or they may be attached to dental implants for those who are missing a full arch of teeth.
At our Staten Island practice, we combine the Prettau® Zirconia bridge with dental implants as an alternative to dentures. Zirconia bridges are stronger than acrylic bridges and look and feel more natural than dentures.
Those who are missing a significant portion of their teeth but still have several healthy teeth may not need a full set of dentures and instead may benefit from partial dentures.
Partial dentures generally consist of artificial teeth attached to a plastic, gum colored base. Partial dentures rest on the gums where teeth are missing and attach to neighboring teeth with a metal clasp. The clasp helps secure the partial dentures in place so that patients can comfortably chew and speak.
Which Treatment Is Right for You?
While dentures have long been used to restore the smile, they have their limitations. Denture alternatives, including implant-supported dentures, offer those who suffer from tooth loss a more comfortable and secure option for restoring dental function.
