Caring for Your Dentures Tips to Make Your Restoration Last
Traditional Dentures
If you have traditional removable dentures, they should be rinsed after eating and brushed once a day with a soft-bristle toothbrush. Take them out every night before you go to sleep and place them in a glass of lukewarm water or a denture cleaner to thoroughly clean them and allow them to retain their shape. Taking your dentures out every night will also give your gums time to rest. Clean any healthy teeth as you normally would, with a toothbrush and toothpaste.
Implant Dentures
You can care for implant-supported dentures similarly to how you would care for natural teeth: brush them with a soft-bristle toothbrush and nonabrasive toothpaste twice a day. Be sure to floss around your dental implants and under your denture. You may use a floss threader or another dental device that gives you better access than traditional floss. Visit our office twice a year so our dentists can keep an eye on your dentures and implants. If it comes time for a new denture, we can make you one.

Traditional dentures typically last several years and may need to be refitted or remade over time, since your gums and jawbone naturally change shape. Implant-supported dentures generally last longer because they anchor to the bone and help keep it stable. Is there an adjustment period when you first get dentures?
