Early in 2020, I had implants done with both Drs. Hecht and I have been extremely pleased with my results. In November I had the pleasure of Dr. Christine's work with 6 new caps. She is a wonderful clinician and truly took the time to explain everything to me. I would also like to acknowledge Jackie from the front desk staff. She is always accommodating, pleasant and efficient.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is a small post usually made from titanium surgically inserted into the jawbone. The titanium fuses to the jaw to act as your natural tooth roots would. Once the post fuses with the bone, it acts as an artificial tooth root. Titanium is biocompatible, meaning the body won't reject the material.

Dental implants are the only tooth restoration technique that replaces a lost tooth root. This provides unmatched stability for replacement teeth and encourages new bone growth to keep your jaw strong.

A complete implant-supported restoration includes the dental implant, a connector piece called an abutment, and the artificial tooth. When multiple implants are used, they can support everything from a dental bridge to a full-arch denture.

Implants Offer Versatile Solutions For Missing Teeth

Single Tooth

For patients missing a single tooth, implant-supported crowns offer a healthy and secure alternative to traditional dental bridges.

Row of Teeth

Two implants can support a dental bridge without having to alter nearby natural teeth. A traditional bridge requires alteration of healthy nearby teeth.

Full Tooth Loss

Implant-supported dentures can replace a complete arch of teeth in your upper or lower jaw and erase concerns about slipping dentures.

While most dentists in the area refer patients to oral surgeons for the surgical stage of the dental implant procedure, Dr. Alex Hecht and his son Dr. Jason Hecht have advanced training in both the surgical and restorative phases of implant dentistry.

Our office also features state-of-the-art diagnostic systems, including a CT scan machine that allows us to capture detailed 3-D images of your smile, including your jawbone. This helps us determine whether you are a suitable candidate for dental implants and pinpoints prime locations for the implants so we can achieve superior results.

If you are looking for a long-lasting, reliable solution to your missing teeth, request a dental consultation today at Staten Island Aesthetic & Implant Dentist here in Staten Island.

I have now used Drs. Alex and Jason Hecht, Dr. Brandon Katz, Dr. Michael Klausner, and gifted hygienist Lorene for about four years now. I have been given excellent service and diagnoses from all, and now have a nice smile and am able to eat and chew what I want without fear of losing a cap or a bridge. The team has put in several implants now, all with great success. I get regular cleanings from Lorene, who makes sure I retain my teeth as long as possible (I am nearing 70 years old). The office managers, Judy and Dawn, are very careful to submit my insurance and bill me amounts within reason. I can't say enough for this fine firm.

After shopping around for implants, my mother told me about this place after receiving a flyer in the mail, little did I know, they were as close as my back yard. The implant surgery went smoothly, Dr Jason and staff took the time to explain and care for my needs. Keeping me informed of every step including my appointment. My girlfriend is also coming here for dental work. I would recommend this place to anyone interested in having implant surgery or restorative dentistry.

Dental implants are designed to replace missing or extensively damaged teeth. At Staten Island Aesthetic & Implant Dentist, we always take the most conservative approach possible when providing treatment for the teeth, jawbone, and gums. In this case, the patient's compromised teeth could not be repaired. However, if your damaged teeth can be salvaged, we will explore alternatives to dental implants.

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

Patients looking to replace missing teeth need to meet certain criteria in order to qualify for dental implants. If gum disease or bone density are obstacles to qualification, our dentists offer treatments to restore your dental health and make you eligible for dental implants. Factors that can affect candidacy:

Jawbone Density

Dental implants rely on the surrounding bone tissue for support. For patients who have lost a significant amount of bone in their jaw, we can provide a dental bone graft to restore your candidacy.

Gum Health

If you have periodontal disease or another issue affecting the health of your gums, you will need to be treated before the implants are placed. Otherwise, they will likely fail.

Tobacco Use

Nicotine undermines your body's ability to heal. If you are a smoker, you will need to drop the habit for a period before surgery and while you heal. Ideally, you will quit altogether as smoking increases your chances of gum disease and implant failure.

General Health

Other health conditions, such as an autoimmune disease or diabetes, can interfere with healing. Though these problems will not necessarily make you ineligible, you should discuss them with your doctor at your initial consultation.

Dental Implant Treatment What to Expect

When compared to keeping bad teeth and paying repeatedly for temporary solutions, the cost of implants may be more affordable in the long run.
When compared to keeping bad teeth and paying repeatedly for temporary solutions, the cost of implants may be more affordable in the long run.

Your Consultation

Before recommending implants, you will have a thorough consultation at our Staten Island, NY, practice. During this appointment, either Drs. Alex or Jason Hecht will explain the restorative treatments available. This visit gives you the chance to meet our friendly team and to ask as many questions as you like. If you are interested in implants, we will proceed with evaluating your health and needs.

Planning Treatment

If we decide that implants are right for you, we will schedule an additional evaluation. During this dental appointment, one of our dentists will create a detailed, one-of-a-kind surgical plan. We will use a cone beam CT scanner to capture a three-dimensional image of your mouth and determine the best locations for the implants. We will also determine if you need preparatory treatments for gum disease or bone loss before your implant surgery.

Your Implant Surgery

The dentist will first numb your gums to ensure your comfort. If needed, he can provide sedation. Next, he will create pilot holes in your jaw, accessing the bone through small incisions in your gums. He will then place the necessary number of implants for your restoration. Just one implant is needed to replace a missing tooth while a full denture may require four or more posts.

Healing & Osseointegration

Recovery usually takes between four and six months, during which the implants fuse with the bone in a process called osseointegration. During the healing period we can often provide a temporary restoration to wear. Some procedures, such as Teeth Tomorrow® and All-on-4® dental implants, allow us to place an implant-supported provisional denture immediately after your surgery.

Abutment Placement

If the abutments were not placed earlier, you will return for minor surgery to have these connector pieces attached. Abutments allow the dentist to attach your restoration to the implant. It takes about two weeks for the gums to form a seal around the connector.

Replacing Your Missing Teeth

The final step is attaching your dental crown, bridge, or denture to the implant. Your custom restoration will be made out of a quality dental material carefully matched so it blends in with your natural teeth. The dentist will test the fit to ensure it is comfortable and make any necessary adjustments before attaching it to the implants.

Avoid Serious Issues with Dental Implants More Reasons Why Implants Are Worth the Cost

Dental implants can be a significant investment, but when you consider the serious issues they can help you avoid, they could become one of the wisest decisions you ever make. Choosing to take advantage of this landmark dental solution means you can minimize your risk of:

Receding Jawbone

As you chew and speak, your tooth roots stimulate your jawbone and signal to the body to retain bone tissue. When you are missing teeth, this stimulation goes away, and your jaw begins to shrink.

Looking Aged Beyond Your Years

As your jawbone begins to recede and you lose more teeth, your skin may sag and your mouth may begin to pucker due to the lack of support these structures provide. This can make you look older than you are.

Misaligned Bite

When you have gaps in your smile from missing teeth, your teeth will correct the problem by shifting to account for the open socket. The compromise is that your bite will become misaligned and imbalanced.

Worn Teeth

With a misaligned bite, your teeth will not meet properly when you chew or speak. This imbalance will cause excessive wear in the areas where the upper and lower teeth meet.

Additional Tooth Loss

Gum disease is more likely to occur when an empty tooth socket is not filled, which can cause tooth decay and eventual tooth loss.

Is Cost an Obstacle?

If you are concerned about the cost of dental implants, let us know. We can discuss financing and create a plan that fits into your budget during your consultation. Customized financing plans are available to our patients based on their budgets and needs. These plans can help you break the cost of implants into manageable monthly payments.
